Libera: South London schoolboys, global Top Tens, 2 Popes, 27 million hits on YouTube

The sensational Libera release their album ‘Hope’ through Invisible Hands Music on 26th May 2017.  The long awaited brand new studio album, their first since 2014, features fourteen songs, newly recorded and is available on CD plus digital.  The singers of Libera, aged seven to sixteen, attend different local schools in South London and come from a variety of backgrounds. Although they are boys and they sing, they do not think of themselves as choirboys, but rather as an alternative kind of boy band; albeit the only one who have performed to 2 Popes [and 2m Pilgrims!], at both ‘Downton Abbey’ and Ely Cathedral and are about to tour Japan, traveling with a group of mums acting as chaperones!

The distinctive sound of Libera has travelled the world in the last few years. The group’s albums have topped both mainstream and classical charts in many countries, and their recordings hold their place in Top Tens alongside major artists like Bocelli.

Libera headed into the recording studio having ‘warmed up’ with a memorable performance at World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland 2016, to an audience of 1.6 million.  The ‘Hope’ album, features a mixture of secular and sacred repertoire for music lovers seeking peace and respite in the midst of today’s chaotic world, from the traditional Salve Regina and the haunting San Damiano to the beloved standards From A Distance and Smile.

The success and audience that the group have reached already is nothing short of staggering.  With 27 million hits on YouTube and 3 Classical Brits nominations, Libera are well known in the UK through appearances on programmes such as the BBC’s Last Choir Standing, Songs Of Praise and Classic FM. The vocal group have travelled the world and have attracted an enormous enthusiastic fan base in many countries, including the US and Canada, Russia, UK, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea.

The boys who make up the vocal band Libera have been described as “normal” and “ordinary”. However, as their recordings and performances demonstrate, the music they produce is truly extraordinary. With shimmering, mystical chords and ecstatic harmonies, they are unlike any other group you have ever heard. These are truly sounds to lift the soul. Celestial sounds for a new time.
