Troubadour – end of tour show

Singer’s no mug as she celebrates
end of daily grind of life on the road

London based singer/songwriter Sylvia Powell – a former label-mate of Kylie Minogue – organised a UK tour of independent Coffee Houses that ran over the last months of 2009 and now she celebrates the end of the run with a final end of tour ‘wrap party’ show at London’s Troubadour on 26th January.

Sylvia says, "The coffee house tour was great, the response from the coffee houses and their customers was brilliant. Most of the venues had never put on live music before but all are now planning to make it a regular feature. I’ve discovered new towns and cities and made lots of new fans in the process. I am looking forward to playing in London and can’t think of a more fitting end to this tour than performing at The Troubadour ? ‘the original coffee house.’"

Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Joni Mitchell all launched their careers from the North American 1960’s coffee house culture of Greenwich Village. In the UK, the London folk scene that launched artists such as Nick Drake and John Martyn, was centred on the Troubadour, where Dylan and Simon also performed.

Sylvia’s blend of folk, soul and jazz suits the intimacy and atmosphere of a coffee house. With her rich, dulcet tones and the ‘confessional’ element of her writing, she follows in a strong slipstream of classic female artists who have carved out their own niche, and defied stereotypes. So tune into your inner beatnik and indulge your senses in the warm and stirring music of Sylvia Powell. Sit back and enjoy!
