Glenn Hughes

Live In Wolverhampton 2CD

“The voice of rock,” Glenn Hughes, releases “Live In Wolverhampton” on 9 May 2011 on 2CD [Cat No 0206389ERE] via Edel’s international rock label, earMUSIC distributed in the UK & Republic of Ireland by Absolute via Universal. For many, he is the great voice of Deep Purple “after Ian Gillan”, but Glenn Hughes is much more than just that.

In June 2009 rock legend Glenn Hughes was invited to his hometown Bilston, Wolverhampton for a rocking dual-night concert. On the first night, he chose from his greatest – and favourite – hits from his time as vocalist of Deep Purple. This evening included such hits as “Crave”, “Muscle & Blood”, “Don’t Let Me Bleed” as well as classic “Mistreated”. The second night, he announced as “You Are The Music: An Evening Of Trapeze.” The audience was in raptures as he aired rarities from his band prior to Purple such as “Touch My Life”, “Black Cloud”, “Coast To Coast”, and “You Are The Music”. The touching evening was a powerhouse of intimate, emotional and rocking good memories, as he remembered his friend and former Trapeze band-member Mel Galley who recently passed away.

Hughes grew up infatuated with sounds of The Beatles and American soul, Motown and R&B. After a few albums with his own band Trapeze (a trio whose members ended up in Purple, Whitesnake and Judas Priest…), he became a star as the replacement of legendary singer Ian Gillan. Glenn also performed with Deep Purple on hard rock classics like “Burn”,”Stormbringer”, and recently re-issued “Come Taste The Band”, bringing to hard rock his funk and soul influences. One of Britain’s greatest voices, his solo career was a great success but Hughes has also collaborated with Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi on the album “7th Star” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith and now of course Black Country Communion.
