Return To Forever Unveils New Release

The Ultimate Live Collection ? Featuring RTF Classics with an All-Star Line-Up in a Deluxe 2CD + DVD Package

On 18 June 2012, Eagle Records will release a live special 3 disc set from jazz-rock fusion supergroup Return to Forever entitled The Mothership Returns [Cat No. EAGCD485]. Return to Forever, whose innovative experimentation has continued to transform the music world since the early 70s, is back with perhaps their most exciting line-up to date and their most elaborate collection yet. The package comes beautifully designed in a premium 8 panel digipack with a content-rich booklet featuring exclusive tour photos and unique essays penned by the artists themselves, as well as a special tribute from Robert Trujillo, bass player from heavy-metal group Metallica.

The discs feature choice music-takes and footage shot from RTF’s most recent 60-date planetary tour ? which included the mind-blowing line-up of founding members Chick Corea (keyboards), Stanley Clarke (bass) and Lenny White (drums), along with violin-virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and guitar-monster Frank Gambale.

The double-CD is filled with over 100 minutes of carefully-selected music and was produced by RTF drummer and Grammy-winning producer Lenny White, and mixed by multi-platinum engineer Mick Guzauski, whose work includes music by Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton and Madonna to name a few.

The song selection on the CDs is an RTF fan’s dream: “Medieval Overture” from the group’s top selling album Romantic Warrior, “After The Cosmic Rain” and “Se?or Mouse” from the record that started it all, Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, Lenny White’s heavy grooving “Sorceress” and “The Shadow of Lo”; Jean-Luc Ponty’s classic tune “Renaissance”; Chick Corea’s opus “Spain”; a house ?rocking version of Stanley Clarke’s “School Days,” and more.

The very special bonus DVD includes nearly two hours of unique footage. It begins with a first ever mini-documentary on the band entitled Return to Forever: Inside the Music. With cutting-edge direction and editing, this one-hour long segment features extensive interviews with the guys in the band, telling the inside stories behind the group’s music and other RTF lore. This is followed by two impactful full-length song performances captured on the tour (“After the Cosmic Rain” live from Austin, Texas, and “The Romantic Warrior” from the venerable Montreux Jazz Festival). These songs were mixed in both stereo and in Dolby 5.1 surround sound and feature beautifully shot video of these five pillars of jazz-rock performing at the top of their game. The DVD ends with a tantalizing preview of an upcoming full-length documentary film on the legendary Return to Forever.

The “mothership” has long been a metaphor with the original members of RTF, symbolizing the place where this adventurous group of musicians returns home from their solo career forays. Each member of this band is a legend in their own right. But as a group, as evidenced by these stunning performances of Chick, Stanley, Lenny, Jean-Luc and Frank, the mothership has indeed returned.
