The South

Sweet Refrains: album due November

If you loved the music of The Beautiful South first time around, then you’re in luck ? 26 November 2012 sees the return of the rump of the band as The South with a new album, ‘Sweet Refrains’. Written by the band, and stuffed full of brand new great music, this album opens a new chapter. With the same wit and mordant humour, plus that irresistible Pop swing, The South hit the spot. Complementing Dave Hemingway and Ali Wheeler are fellow mainstays from the original band: keyboard wizard Damon Butcher and the potent horn section of Gaz Birtles and Tony Robinson that brought so much to the band’s celebrated live shows.

Produced by Teo Miller – who has worked with the likes of Robert Plant, Placebo, Blur, Happy Mondays, The Pretenders and The Auteurs ? ‘Sweet Refrains’ is an album that will do more than satisfy the curiosity of the partisan. This puts The South back on course to do what they do best once again; deliver great music with a truly incomparable style. As Dave sings on ‘Second Coming’, "My ass is on the line, stand while I wave my magic wand". Abracadabra, a great record!

Dave Hemingway and Ali Wheeler loved the songs, and life on the road, too much to let the silence take over and hence formed The South. Steeped in the genesis and delivery of classics like ‘Song For Whoever’, ‘Perfect Ten’, ‘Rotterdam’, ‘Don’t Marry Her’, ‘You Keep It All In’, ‘Old Red Eyes Is Back’, these guys know what a hit record sounds like. It sounds like ‘Sweet Refrains’!

The band will launch the album with an intimate one-off London show on 24 October 2012 at London’s Bush Hall. Tickets on sale 0900 on Wednesday 26 September [Tickets ?15, Doors 1930, Stage time 2030, Box Office]

‘Sweet Refrains’ is a great chance for lovers of this truly classic British Pop band to reconnect with the musicians and the music once again. Far more than an echo of past glories, this album has its eyes on the horizon.
