Tangerine Dream: ‘Sessions 1’ Live album, plus RSD release
Invisible Hands Music is delighted to announce the release on 25 May 2018 of ‘Sessions 1’ by Tangerine Dream [Cat No IH83]. Known for their exploratory live work, the best of the band’s live improvisations are being released as the Sessions series, and Invisible Hands Music is proud to bring the first one out on vinyl, with side one recorded live in Budapest and side two in Hong Kong. Additionally, to mark Record Store Day, Invisible Hands Music are delighted to release on 21 April 2018 unheard tracks from Tangerine Dream’s founder Edgar Froese, Run To Vegas and Leviathan [Cat No IH80T].
In the imperial years of the 1970s, Tangerine Dream’s live concerts were an electronic exploration, improvised and different every night, with little or no relationship to their smash hit albums, which were similarly esoteric. As the 1980s dawned, their recorded work contained more recognisable themes and they scored some of the biggest films of the decade (Risky Business, Firestarter, Near Dark, Thief, Sorcerer) and the live show became more regimented. Now, they are returning in part to those pioneering days, and every show includes a half-hour section of improvisation, different every night, with an ecstatic reaction from fans. ‘Sessions 1’ is the first recorded fruit of these shows.
To mark 2018’s Record Store Day, Invisible Hands Music are proud to release these two tracks left behind by Edgar Froese, founder of Tangerine Dream, before he passed away in January 2015, ‘Run To Vegas and Leviathan’. Rescued from the archives by his widow Bianca Froese-Acquaye, these two magical tracks are among the last work recorded by Edgar Froese and have never been heard before. The record is on clear vinyl and comes in a bespoke disco bag; numbers are strictly limited.
